Going on any diet at all is a journey that begins with a decision which is usually influenced by a health need or just healthy lifestyle. In truth, it can be quite challenging to keep up especially at the beginning when your body is still trying to adjust to it. You want to learn how to stay motivated on a diet? Keep reading!

The essence of going on a journey is to hopefully arrive at your destination. There might be obstacles on the way but try to conquer them and keep going. It is the same for dieting. You begin with a diet plan or guide and keep following it if your body accepts it until you reach your goals.

Getting a meal or dieting program will ease the stress of what to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are many dieting programs that you can choose from based on your health need and budget. They mostly offer recipes and tell you what to eat at different times of the day. This will motivate you to follow the plan and not end up repeating same or similar meals when you rely on your own knowledge.

Think about your reasons for going on a diet

Most times people decide to go on a diet for good reasons which are mostly health related. It could be due to overweight or obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure among others. Also, the older you get, the more you are required to eat healthy foods. The goal for many people on a diet includes weight loss, right weight balance or overall good health. For some, especially those in the entertainment industry like artists or models, it is to keep an appealing or marketable look. Regular models are required to keep a certain size to keep their careers moving.

Whatever your reasons are for choosing to diet, they are valid! So when you begin to go through the challenges of dieting, just remember that you are doing it for a great reason which is beneficial to your body or survival. There is a popular quote by Jim Rohn that says “Tack care of your body because it is the only place you have to live in”. This is very true because if for instance, consuming sugar or certain foods will jeopardize your health or put at life at risk, then they are worth keeping away, no matter your love for them so you can live well or in sound health. I know it’s not easy to give up foods you love, but remind yourself that your health is priority and it will help to keep you going.

Eat healthier alternatives of your favorite foods you can’t eat

One of the best ways to keep going with your dieting is to find healthier alternatives to foods you love. Dieting shouldn’t look like a form of punishment. You can actually be on a diet and enjoy your foods in a different way. For instance, if you are on a low carb diet and can’t take unsweetened tea or coffee like me, you can use Stevia which is a healthy plant based sweetener that will not affect or increase your blood sugar. Most of the sugar free low carb baking or desserts that have a sweet taste are sweetened with stevia. Honey is not a good alternative to sugar because it is also high in carbohydrates.

Almond flour is a healthier low carb alternative to the normal flour for your baking and there are tons of recipes online or on YouTube that you can take advantage of. Many are quite easy to make. If you love fresh orange juice, juice fresh grape fruits for an alternative that are low in carbs. If you are a pasta lover, get a spiralizer and spiralize vegetables like zucchini to pasta form and enjoy. This will help keep you motivated to stay on a diet because you have varieties of alternatives to keep you going and not make your dieting journey tiring or boring!

Getting involved in activities that keep your mind healthy

The mind is a very powerful part of the human body. This is because it can develop and uplift you when it is in a positive state or cause you stagnation or imbalance when in a negative state. Involving in activities like yoga is enriching. This is because it is a form of exercise that improves energy and vitality and it’s breathing exercises and meditation helps to relax the body, relieve stress and improve the state of the mind. You feel very refreshed all round after yoga session.

The positive state of your mind will make help you feel right about your dieting and the need to keep going until you reach or goals or even afterwards to maintain it. This is because, if you are dieting to achieve weight loss and you reach your goal, you have to maintain it so you do not return to where you were. Let’s say your doctor tells you to try to lose 20kg off your current weight and you were able to achieve that after a period, you might gain the weight back if you return to your old eating habits. So you have to maintain the healthy diet.

Dieting is a significant change in eating habits that requires determination and perseverance. Always look at the benefits while you are on it. Remember to watch out for any negative change in your body while on a diet and see your physician. Do your regular routine check ups. Some people develop very high LDL or bad cholesterol from a full keto diet due to high intake of saturated fats which can cause heart related issues. Whatever you do, remember that good health is life!

  1. Yes, very good one. I think the best approach to dieting is having a meal plan with a determined effort. Many times we fall back on our normal eating habits because we lack a strategic meal and determination to follow through. Also…making sacrifices for the good sweeties we’ll be missing…lol.
