Creating A Healthy Lifestyle plan

Many times people get so busy with work and daily demands that they forget to pay attention to their overall health. Creating a healthy lifestyle can be quite challenging especially when you have so many tasks to carry out at home or at work. Sometimes we end up grabbing any food option available to eat and this can lead to weight gain or put your body at risk of diseases.

Your health goals should not be a short term diet to solve health issues temporarily but a long term sustainable lifestyle that is of great benefit to your body. Nothing beats aging gracefully in sound health. One of the best ways to achieve a goal is to create a plan which becomes a routine. These tips will help you create a healthy lifestyle plan

Eat Your Meals Timely

Many people do not have defined times for eating breakfast, lunch and dinner. Create a healthy lifestyle by setting a time frame for your daily meals especially breakfast which is the most important meal of the day. This is because it activates your metabolism and balances blood sugar levels. It is recommended that you eat breakfast within two hours of getting up. Lunch time should be at 12.45pm and dinner before 7pm.

Studies show that eating too close to bedtime can result to indigestion and sleeping problems. However, consuming within your daily calorie intake (which is between 1600 and 2400 for women and 2000 to 3000 calories for men, depending on age, size, height, lifestyle, overall health and activity level) does not lead to weight gain according to studies carried out by healthline.com

Do Not Skip Meals

One of the greatest health mistakes many people make is skipping meals as a way to lose weight. The body needs food to survive because food is fuel. When you skip meals, you slow down your metabolism and you are not burning calories. Rather, your body thinks you are starving and when you eat again, your body stores more than normal which can result to weight gain. Rather than skip meals, eat healthy low starch foods.

How to eat

Often times the body is affected not just by what you eat but how you eat. Total restriction of certain foods (except for health reasons and advised by the doctor), can result to deficiency of some body nutrients. The right way to eat is to eat more vegetables and protein than starch. Choose complex carbs or whole grains and take a small portion with a large portion of vegetables to nourish your body without causing weight gain.

Buy Healthy FoodsVegetables

If you keep good food in your fridge, you will eat good food. Why spend money on foods that are not good for your body? Make it a habit always buy and keep healthy foods. Healthy foods include foods that have fewer or complex carbohydrates, rich in protein, fiber, healthy fats, minerals, vitamins and antioxidants. These include whole grains, meat, fish, chicken, vegetables, nuts, seeds, eggs and fruits especially berries. When you have healthy foods in your kitchen, you will have to eat them. But if you stock up unhealthy foods, you end up with unhealthy eating.

Creating a lasting healthy lifestyle requires determination to stay away for anything that poses health risk. Not all healthy foods are expensive. Some foods are locally produced and therefore cheaper than imported ones. For instance, if salmon is not available in your location or very expensive, you can eat avocados which also contains healthy fats (Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats) and any other fish you have. Leafy green vegetables are also available in almost every country though in different forms and types.

Buy natural and fresh produce rather than processed foods.

Cook Meals Ahead and Store

Another great way to maintain healthy eating is to plan ahead. Cook the meals and store in the refrigerator or freezer as the case may be. Then microwave and consume when needed. This saves a lot of time and reduces the stress from frequent cooking. It also makes the food readily available when you need it.

Drink Lots of Water

Water is life! The body needs water for survival. All the organs, tissues and cells in the body use water to regulate body temperature and function properly. It is therefore very important to stay hydrated not just in summer but every time of the year. It is important to note that fluids like juices made from concentrates, soda and other sugary drinks are not healthy drinks and cannot replace water. Drink clean water and also healthy foods or drinks that contain water to stay hydrated. See

Exercise Regularly

No matter how busy your schedule is, create time for physical activity or exercise. This is important for physical fitness and improvement in the quality of life. It also reduces the risk of diseases like obesity and high blood pressure. If you are too busy to go to the gym, try simple exercises at home. Jumping rope is a very effective body work out which you can do at home and all you need is a jumping rope which is very cheap.

Have Quality Rest and Sleep

The body does a lot to keep you alive and active and therefore needs rest. Sometimes you feel very tired or exhausted from hectic tasks or a bad day, just take time to rest and have a quality sleep. You will wake up refreshed and healthy. If you routinely do not get enough rest or good sleep, your body can breakdown and make you fall ill. You wake feeling weak and tired. Pay attention to your body when it begins to show signs of exhaustion and rest!

You can always pick up from where you stopped if you are fine but a sick person cannot perform optimally.

Smoking is also dangerous to your health. Do not take excess alcohol. Whatever choices you make, consider your health and the fact that your body is the only place you have to live. So what are you waiting for? Start creating a healthy lifestyle using this simple plan as a guide for a healthier you!

I find this very helpful and enlightening. Keep it up especially on part about sufficient water drinking. Most of us due to our busy work schedules overlook this very important aspect of our health.

  2. Nice one Lovelyn. I didn’t realise it was important to have timely meals. I’ll try to keep up from now though I’m quite terrible with lunch as i tend to have a heavy breakfast and eat up eating my lunch between 3pm to 5pm. Guess that’s no longer lunch. Water is another thing i forget to drink and sometimes i feel dizzy. I have to step up on that.
